We are greatly looking forward to YEC graduate Sheila Arnell teaching this new course for our teacher curriculum, focusing on women’s health and yoga. This is an extremely important topic, as women, without a doubt, currently form the bulk of yoga practitioners, yet are underrepresented in the Yogic literature, in scientific literature, and in the specific application of practices. Sheila has prepared this course for YEC, and we thank all of the women over the past two years who have brought specific questions to us about Yoga and women’s health for helping to inspire this course. It is a mandatory course for all teachers, and past YEC graduates are encouraged to enrol in this as well. 

Sheila will cover specific practices from YS Level 1 and Pranayama Level, and how they can be applied at different times of a woman’s cycle, and will also cover:

1. Fertility Awareness & Conscious Conception

• Menstrual tracking, ovulation, and the fertility window
• The nervous system’s influence on fertility
• Breath and visualization practices for fertility support

2. Postpartum & Matrescence

• The physiology of the postpartum period
• Breathwork and movement in healing and identity shift
• Nervous system and emotional health during new motherhood

3. Chronic Conditions Specific to Women

• Endometriosis, PCOS, thyroid conditions
• How yoga, breathwork, and stress management can support these conditions

4. Perimenopause & Menopause: Transition, Power & Practice

• Perimenopause vs menopause 
• Nervous system support 
• Adapted yoga and meditation for hormonal transitions 
• Reframing menopause
